The brand new album by the jazz bassist with Slovenian roots is called “Move Closer!” and attempts a synthesis of modern jazz arithmetic and traditional lines. Influences from the Balkans and Cuba are at the top of the program and give the nine wide-ranging compositions a jazzy freedom and catchy character. This is how Afro-Cuban folklore meets unusual rhythm changes demand a lot of groove feeling and creative harmony from the sextet. A melange that inspires me from the first chord.
